Dogs have different dietary needs at the different stages in their life, puppy chow may not cut it for your older dog. Then you need to look at the ingredients of the dog food to make sure that it is filled with quality ingredients. If you are not sure if something in the chow is good for your dog, then ask a veterinarian. Of course you then have to consider how much the dog food will cost you. The dog food may be great for your dog, but that does not mean it is great for your wallet.
