Quonset huts were used to house soldiers in the field during the war. Quonset huts were easy to put up and take down. The basic design of the Quonset hut quickly became popular with civilians. Today, the building design is still used to provide protection for vehicles, farm equipment and animals and many other uses. The design has curved walls that forms an arch over the floor.
