• Credit cards bearing a yearly fee. Annual fees are a relic of the days when credit was so rare that only the very wealthy owned them, and they were willing to pay for the privilege. Now, with every department store, clothing store, and small club offering its own credit card, there's no reason to pay a fee. If you find an offer that's perfect apart from an annual feel, call the company and ask them to waive the fee. Many companies will do so.
