One of the best ways to do this is by making sure that there is nothing above the pit that can cause a fire to spread out of control with. Place your outdoor fire pits at the safe distance away from your home and make sure that there are no tree branches hanging overhead. You also want to avoid any piles of dry leaves or anything else that could constitute a fire hazard.
